About once an hour. After months of playing with this router that is supposed to be super fast I ordered a new one to replace it. It is not my computer as I have three and it does it with all of themJust call the help line you say. I wish I would have kept the receipt but it now makes it easier to set it on fire and throw it in the trash. On an average day I would lose wireless connection with this router about 15 times. Wait about 5 minutes so they can transfer you to Samir from another country that says he speaks english but you cannot understand even his name. How can companies expect thier customers to put up with tech help that they cant understand.
Third, once the Hawking was able to connect, the Netgear timed it out periodically (as in daily) and required not merely a reboot, but complete reinstallation of the Hawking as a client of the Netgear. I installed a Hawking 300N wireless range extender, and began to uncover problems. This Netgear router worked fine with clients connected directly to it -- setup was easy and the range was fine within our 1000 sq ft apartment -- but it would not reach the rooftop, where my home office is located. After a couple of weeks of this I gave up, retired the Netgear router, and bought a Linksys Wireless N router (WRT160N). First, the Netgear will not support WPA2 encryption with a range extender, at best only WPA. Second, the Netgear will not support a MAC-address inclusion list and encryption at the same time -- evidently you must choose one or the other methods of securing your network. The problems appear to be solved. Thus, the Netgear router should be fine for users without a need for range extension or a MAC access list, but should not be considered for any network with needs beyond the most basic.
When I moved recently into a larger place, I wanted more range for my wireless router. The service tech was quite unconcerned about the fact that my old "G" router worked fine (although at a "low" signal strength) at the same range, despite the promise on the box. I bought this one because right on the box, it says "up to 10x" the range of other routers. It was tough enough to get it working -- I finally had to shut down everything including my cable modem (which required removing the battery) -- and when it finally came alive, I found that my Internet connection dropped every three or four minutes.I called Netgear support for help, and they said that based on the distance over which I was trying to communicate, the router was behaving normally. I'm returning it after several wasted hours, and I'm just going to reinstall my old Linksys router. I'm sure Netgear's other products are fine but I'll never find out.
The product is not approved for windows. The product worked fine with my apple computers. I have wasted hours trying to get it to work. I am now shopping for a new setup. But, for windows, it is a bad, very bad. It may be the adaptor rather than the router, but I will never buy NETGEAR again.
outstanding.bought a refurb from reforger, standard shipping (yeah right). There is a lot more cool stuff added including port forwarding upgrades, radio shut-off,.etc, geek stuff that will realy wow you but too geeky for most so I'll leave that for a surprise. The immediate speed and connect with no drops made me wish I'd gotten an 'N' card with it. Need to pay attention to the normal info in the box like the 10.0.0.1 ip and admin-password default signin and password, but netgear menu was normal, just what I expected. What I didn't expect was the immediate online update built right in(definitely cool). Order the card and router together or you'll be back again just for the speed. It eliminated one of the more convoluted steps with a new device. I expected it to take 2 weeks, maybe 10 days.it shipped monday and got it wed.Pulled it out and setup was a breeze. The blue ball button connect is just too easy and may bum out some of the geeks but they'll get over it.
Every netgear upgrade I've done has been better everytime. If netgear keeps this up I'm going to expect a new and better surprise each time. In fact that's why I'm writing the review, because I came back to laughin' Bezos' site to get an "N" card. Way too easy.
